Polygon took control of designing the service and assistance terminal ImpressionIST® Avantgarde on behalf of the eyewear manufacturer Rodenstock. This terminal is home to the best that innovative technology has to offer, providing customers with enhanced service in their hunt for the perfect glasses, including photo-assisted eyewear selection, the precise – globally patented – 3D video centring system and the individual lens consultancy service.
Even the predecessor model to the service terminal, in keeping with the large number of functions required, was an extraordinarily complex assembly, brimming with individual features. Polygon created a new-look design for the ImpressionIST® Avantgarde, defined in particular by a reduction in outward complexity and integration within the overall shop layout. Now, still fitted with the full array of individual functions, the terminal looks high-class, almost surgical.
The visual focus on technical aspects was muted substantially, reduced to the essentials needed to operate the system. Now customers will focus their attention merely on the tilting touchscreen and a mirror section accommodating the stereo camera, a fixation target and the flash system. The head of the system is height-adjustable to provide ideal alignment with differently sized customers looking to try on spectacles. This means they can be measured standing up with a perfectly normal physical and neck posture.
