A printout feature is a sensible addition in terminal projects, also for employee terminals. However, the sensitivity of data and other factors place very particular demands on security. Polygon developed a unique, patented solution to cater precisely to these requirements. Our PPU add the finishing touches to security at employee terminals and therefore also come with the option of printing documents with data privacy relevance – such as hours clocked and payslips – within a protected framework. Polygon left its competitors trailing behind with this product and has since, among other things, recruited a well-known German premium sports car manufacturer as its customer.
The system works based on the following principle: Our software compartmentalises print orders, meaning that the printer only presents single sheets. A light barrier triggers the transport mechanism, presenting the sheet for withdrawal. The print order is deleted if the sheet is not withdrawn or the person leaves the terminal; the sheet is automatically retracted and sent to the document shredder for destruction. This means that the printout is monitored at all times, and the system can deliver a maximum in data protection.
Our PPU enables all standard laser and thermal printers – entirely vendor-independent – to be equipped with a present and retract function. The system also comes with an integrated document shredder for confidential printouts left behind. It is TÜV-tested and certified based on the DIN standards 66399-1 and 66399-2. The German Patent Office has issued a patent for the entire system.
The PPU is home to high-tech components and has been – in its entirety – developed by Polygon engineers. The PPU is engineered with a housing made of rustproof steel and aluminium materials. Its insides include feed rollers on ball bearing supports, as used in cash handling. This assembly speaks for the system's reliability. The mechanical parts exhibit no wear whatsoever, even after more than 220,000 test cycles. Over 10,000 shredding procedures were initiated in a terminal with printer, without any incidence of paper jam in the printer or in our paper transport unit. This is quality, signed and sealed. And you can rely on it!
"We build so-called employee terminals to provide staff in production with the opportunity to access company and personal data. But data privacy regulations mean that these terminals must on all accounts render illegible any printouts left behind. There was no solution on the market to meet our stringent demands. This is why we used our own mechatronic expertise to develop the PPU. Combined with our employee terminals, it allows us to offer customers a unique solution for sensitive printouts that satisfies data privacy regulations. A large number of household names, among them Gerolsteiner, MAN and a well-known German manufacturer of sports cars, place their trust in us ."
