In 2014 dm employed Polygon as a second supplier with the production of their cash desk made from wood. Although our task was limited to delivering on platform, we considered all steps within the process chain. It was remarkable that the consisting process was very expensive and vulnerable for damage. 80 % of the cash desks were damaged after being set up without an apparent cause. The additional repair costs must hence be paid by dm.
Thereupon we proposed an innovative concept: Polygon would assume the responsibility for all processes and be thereby accountable for delivering perfect functioning and undamaged cash desks.
The customer was really elated, so we could introduce all our cash desks by this procedure. With this concept, we lay the foundation for our built-to-order-concept.
In 1973, the first dm market was opened in Karlsruhe. Today there are dm markets in twelve European countries with roundabout 2.900 markets. To make drugstore shopping more like an adventure, 50.000 employees are working for dm in Europe, thereof 3.4000 in Germany. In January 2013 dm drogeriemarkt takes place 21 from 500 of the biggest family companies in the German magazine Wirtschaftsblatt.
