There is an increasing focus on finding ideal solutions for the final phase in the transport of goods – also known as the home stretch. As the market leader in Germany that delivered over one billion packages in 2013, DHL Paket has successfully introduced one of the most seminal innovations in this sector – with a helping hand from Polygon.
And bringing simplicity to the receipt and dispatch of DHL packages is precisely the purpose of the new DHL package box. It is particularly appealing to owners of detached and semi-detached homes. They can set up a DHL package box in their front yard or attach one to the house wall. This means that packages can be received at any time, even if no one is home. The process of returning packages is also far more convenient. All this requires is depositing the package with pre-paid postage in the DHL package box and submitting a free online pick-up order. Customers are not required to spend any more time or effort in sending or receiving their goods.
DHL Paket teamed up with Polygon to develop a modern package box based on the new DHL Packstation design, which the companies had also created as a joint project. The box is available in a variety of sizes, colours and designs. Customers will find it easy to assemble the flat individual components and the convenient connecting pieces. But DHL package boxes can also be ordered with assembly service included upon request. They are even available for rent.
The DHL package box 'Modern' comes with an electromechanical locking system designed by Polygon that operates based on two wireless technologies: Customers use personalised tags with NFC technology to open the boxes without any contact, while Bluetooth is used to open them using DHL hand scanners. This locking system ensures that no one else can access packages deposited in the box. The Bluetooth technology also means the DHL package boxes are entirely integrated within the DHL software environment. This enables continuous consignment tracking. Additionally, Polygon deals with the entire manufacturing process through to transport to the DHL central warehouse. Individually, for each order.
You will find the completePress release and the Order platform on the DHL website.
„The Paketkasten is the greatest development for our industry since the mailbox. With the Paketkasten, our customers can receive parcels at home, just as easily and routinely as they do their regular mail.“
